Alcohol Cuts Heart Attack Risk (link)

Beer and Pretzls Matt sent me a link to an article at xtramsn the other day with an acompanying comment ... "the news is all good.  a tipple a day will keep your heart in good shape....but we all knew that anyway"

It turns out that regular drinkers can cut their risk of heart-attack by up to a third when compared to non-drinkers. So that does it, I'm gonna drink plenty at the one-dayer cricket match tommorow. Routine consumption is key apparently, perhaps I'll have to schedule some drinking alerts into my Palm pilot calendar.

Giving Up Smoking is Easy (link)

I had to laugh when I read this post from David Carr about the 'useful' (or otherwise) advice he's had from folks telling him how easy it is to give up smoking. My girlfriend Kym is currenly trying to give up at the moment so I'll be suffering as well over the next week or so...

People say stupid things when you're trying to quit smoking. 'Hey, David, it's all in your mind'. 'No kidding??!! And there was me thinking it was all in my foot. Of course, it's all in my f*cking mind, you stupid c*nt. If it was all in my computer's hard-drive I could just delete it and have done with.'

Snow and Sun Disrupt Rail (link)

I spent a couple of winters in the UK a few years ago and was kept entertained by the now famous excuses British Rail came out with concerning leaves-on-the-rails (in fact I even worked for BR). You can excuse them I guess for last weeks disruptions caused by the cold weather.

What I thought was funny about the BR problems, was that on the same day here in NZ 140 passengers had to be shuttled by bus past a section of our main-trunk railway because the railway company were worried that hot weather might cause rails to buckle in the heat under the weight of the trains.
