The whole shuttle balls-up on Sunday was a tragedy of course and I'm not gonna bother you with my personal tribute to the lives lost, there are plenty of others writing moving stuff out there, plus there are things closer to home to think about like the rail crash near Sydney on Friday where the same number of people died.

However, something I find quite fascinating is weird coincidences, freak occurances, synchronicity and irony, and I reckon the following is pretty out there...

Most folks know that one of the crew on Columbia was Ilan Ramon, the 1st Israeli in space. But did you hear that the shuttle began to self destruct over a town in Texas called 'Palestine'? Another freaky detail, the Columbia accident occured on the 1/2/2003, which in technical notation reads 030201, in another form 3-2-1...

have just spent a long weekend up in the Corromandal peninsula and on the way there I was trying to brainwash myself not to think about anything IT related, clear the mind, unplug from electronic devices of all description, and relax on the beach was the mantra.

This proved to be largely unworkable, I guess it didnt help that I packed a book on Python and another on Zope, and that my Palm pilot somehow snuk itself into my overnight bag.

Driving back from the beach last night I found myself wondering how to excuse myself from unpacking duties at home to get into work to do some reading on the web and write a few bits and pieces. Of course, what I really needed to do was to keep myself unplugged, something Mark is obviously in need of, and has generated a list of things to unplug when you're over-exposded.
