DeeKnow’s Grotto

It's at about this time of the year that I am shamed into action of an exercise kind in response to stimulii like the Tour coverage, my total absence of fitness, the start of the ski season, and the threat of developing man-breasts if I drink too much more beer.

So it was that I lept on my mighty Z-Team coloured pushbike and charged off into the frosty haze of a mid-winter hamilton morning, puffing my way across town to work leaving behind a little personal vapour trail.

By Christ it was cold !!!  Fucking cold!!!

It was the first frost I've seen so far, thats not to say we havent had loads of frosts allready, its just that they've generally thawed out by the time I struggle out of bed in the mornings, but it was still sub-zero.  Kym had to remind me that it was minus three when she got up to go to the gym.

As I neared work I tried to thaw out my clenched hands by blowing some warm air through them, then quickly popped them back under my armpits and continued weaving along sans-hands-on-bars.

One of my workmates exclaimed with alarm that I was 'crazy' from the comfort of her thick woolen coat, hat and gloves, but I actually really enjoy the shock of a winter ride. There's nothing quite like giving your system a wee scare to start the day and definately makes you appreciate the crappy building heating system you'd normally be cursing on arrival.
