According to an article at Wired I read this morning...

"A clever border collie that can fetch at least 200 objects by name may be living proof that dogs truly understand human language, German scientists reported on Thursday....Rico can figure out which object his master wants even if he has never heard the word before"

This is all well and good but I'm not sure I trust GERMAN researchers training dogs to fetch stuff as they're only going to be returning with sex toys or hand-grenades. Plus how much language does a dog really need to understand, this is pretty much all that's rerquired isnt it?...
