My Mum the Trucker (link)

I moved into a new flat on the weekend which went suprisingly well considering how bloody hot it was, sure there was the odd stressy moment when those helping out got in the way of one another, but no fist-fights that I'm aware of.

My mother turned up to help as she reliably does on these occasions and her and I were on loading-and-driving-duty shuttling stuff between residences. At one point I heard her say to me from across the other side of a towering load of stuff... "Dean, is this knot OK on this rope".

Now being a bloke the only response to this challenge of my knot-tying-expertise was to say "Yes, it'll be fine" and I promptly got on with tying another one. Little did I know Mum cunningly retied the thing the proper way with about 10-times the strength of the flimsy excuse for a knot I'd made, and probably saved the load from spilling all over Hamiltons roads.

I burst out laughing when I saw it, and felt a little ashamed of the fact that all those years as a scout when I was a kid had basically come to nothing. I couldnt tie a knot to save myself. Good on ya Mum. :-)

Priest Brews in Washing Machine (link)

Mentioned on a page on realbeer.com is a German priest who has built a computer interface into an old washing machine to let it run an automatic brewing program. This is a fantastic idea, and great recycling of old hardware. I'm particularly interested as Kym bought us a new washing machine for the flat on the weekend and hopefully it will crap out so I can try some brewing of my own.

Australia's Cloned Sheep Dies (link)

Australia's first cloned sheep has died despite being in apparent good health, but any chance of getting to the root of the mysterious death was lost when its decomposing carcass was cremated. This has "raised eyebrows" among opponents of cloning and gene technology, who lamented that there would be no further opportunity to establish what happened.
