An audience with the NZSO
Pederson and I just got in the door from a night out (she called it a date) listening to the NZSO play a Brahms piano concerto (feat. Peter Donohoe), Tchaikovsky's Symphony No2 and a piece by NZ composer Chris Cree Brown at the mighty Founders theatre We parked near the fountains (are they the only fountains in the fountain city) and walked past the stage door where a couple of performers were having a warmup smoke. I thought I smelled something fishy, and was sure I saw some clear-eyes being dispensed, but Kym wasnt too sure. Every row of seats was packed with members of the blue rinse-brigade and their silver haired partners. Made us feel like real youngsters. Must go to the Symphony more often. One old bugger shook his head with dismay and murmered "Rubbish...Rubbish..." to his mate during the NZ piece which admitedly did sound like the soundtrack to Planet of the Apes or something (was Cree Brown an acid-junky?) In the intermission I had a quick chat with my seat neighbour who turned out to be from Ohaupo, I mention I'm from Ngahinepouri, he says his son lives on Old School Rd, it transpires my Brother shoots ducks on his Son's farm and he knows my Dad, his brother and sister well. Bloody hell, small world. As we were leaving Kym observed that loads of the performers were already legging it off down the road. She queried why they werent hanging around with their orchestra friends having a cup of tea to celebrate the performance, I suggested that as they were blokes they may have been popping off down to California Girls for a quick visit. Oh yeah, the music was bloody great, I'll tell you about it some time. 10:45:02 PM |
