DeeKnow’s Grotto

Last year Pederson and I headed out to Chartwell shopping centre here in Hamilton on the same Thursday night a week before xmas to do all our shopping in one foul swoop. It worked out well, the place wasnt overly busy and afterwards we went and had a big feed at that great kiwi eating establishment, the Cobb-n-Co.

It was such a successful shopping date that this year we thought we'd repeat the exercise, so off we went over the Fairfield bridge to Chartwell (its called Westfield for now of course). The spending went pretty well, not too many arguments, and next thing we're merrily loading up the car and heading across the road to place an order for some spare ribs and schnitzel.

While we were wating for dinner we laughed about how this was becoming an annual occasion and speculated whether or not we'd still be shopping at Chartwell and eating at the Cobb when we're 85. An hour later, and a few beers down the gullet, there was no sign of dinner and when we enquired with the head waitress it turned out they'd forgotten our meals.

Jesus I was wild.

Kym thought we might wait while they hurridly cooked replacements but I was so rarked up all I could think about was presenting an excuse about having to be somewhere and leaving. Sure enough thats precicsely what we did. We got our drinks for free and left the joint.

In the car we burst out laughing again about how our annual event didn't quite become annual at all. It was only a once-a. Didn't matter in the end coz we headed out to Te Rapa and had a drink and wicked meal at Hamilton's new English-style pub, the Cock and Bull.
