Sieze the Buddha (link)
A couple of years back the current Dalai Lama visited New Zealand for his second time and I remember thinking ... Jesus!! ... (or should that have been Buddha!!) ... I must get along and see the old bugger. I even took the precautionary measure of mentioning it to a couple of others so they could share the blame if we didn't actually get around to it. Anyway, his visit came and went and all I got to see was a little coverage on the telly news that night. What an e-git. I never make new-years-resolutions and there's no reason why this year will be any different, but If I do accidentaly make a resolution this year under duress it will be something along the carpe-diem lines... How Buddhism Got to Russia - After denying the Dalai Lama's visa requests for years, Russia has finally relented and allowed the Buddhist spiritual leader to visit the country. He will spend most of his time in the southern republic of Kalmykia, half of whose 300,000 residents are practicing Buddhists. [Slate] 8:03:22 PM |
