Back Home - Back to Work
It turned out the weather God's were definately against us this year as far as ski-friendly conditions were concerned. Over the course of 9-days we had one full day of skiing and two part days. The rest were either heavy-snowing periods or high wind which kept the mountain shut. And even when the weather did brighten up it turned out the overnight winds put an evil glass-like layer of ice over the 2.5metres of glorious snow underneath, and to really put some crap icing on the cake, yesterday thousands of cars queued up in a stationary tail-back that went all the way down the mountain to the bruce-road turn-off. The mountain road was closed for up-traffic coz ALL OF THE CARPARKS WERE FULL. Can you imagine what the lift queues would have been like? Yep, so did we so we got the hell out of there and had a nice leasurely drive home with lots of diversions and stops along the way, including the obligatory dip in the hot-pools at Tokaanu. We cant complain really coz we've had three previous years where we've have almost no interuption to skiing during a week(ish)-long holiday. It was actually quite nice just having a winter-break, and really cool staying in a village that was being snowed on providing an environment we dont get too often in New Zealand. Have knocked up an index of photos from the trip this year, not too many are of skiing action of course. 11:55:13 PM |
