A Week of THRILLING News
Plenty of action been going on over the last week or so its been since I last posted. On the domestic front we've had the so called Hikoi of course which has stirred almost everyone up. As soon as ends it turns out many of the folks who attended are on the dole and have ended up in trouble over innapropriate claims of emergency leave which meant they couldn't attend job interviews. Seems a bit over the top tho, I mean come on, just how many bloody intererviews do most folks on the dole really go to in a week? Over the last week or so this story of the US and American photos of tourtured Iraqi prisoners has come up and just doesnt seem to be going away. Lets get real here though, this sort of shit goes on, you've gotta be pretty naive to think it doesnt, if the photos hadnt come out we'd have carried on quite happily listening to CNN strories about all those Arab baddies and their wicked ways. While we're on a negative spin here, the story thats been kinda haunting me the most is the Death-Sentence handed out to the 6 Bulgarian (and Palestinian) doctors in Libya over the HIV scandal. The Libyans (sp? thanx Douglas :-) claim HIV-contaminated blood was deliberatly injected into some 400 children in some kind of experiment or CIA-like conspiracy. However there are also counter-claims that the infections are from prior to recruitment of the foreign doctors as a cover-up of poor Libyan hospital conditions. But most importantly tonight was the exciting finale' of the Kiwi Idol competition. Kym dragged me into the lounge to see the final presentation (which I think went to Ben), I pretended to be interested then escaped ASAP. The most interesting thing for me though isnt the performers, it's the appearance of the IdolBlog.com website that covered the event and the subsequent coverage of the blog site on mass-media here in NZ, it wont last of course. 11:53:56 PM |
