Badminton is for Sissies (link)
Shuttlecock

or is it?  Despite the ballet-like antics of players, and light weight of the racket and little shuttle-cock thing you smash from one side of the court to another, I can categorically say that Badminton is NOT a light-weight game.

I've been sitting on my lard-arse for so long now that walking up a single flight of stairs is challenging enough that I need a break to catch my breath before continuing. But despite my poor (ie absent) level of fitness I was convinced that playing the game today at lunchtime with some workmates would be a walk in the park

How wrong could I be!!! After the 1st game I was sweating and puffing and having to pause in between rallies to pretened to be checking the rules and tactics with partners and opponents. Badminton rocks, and is gonna be a wicked way to give my body the wake-up it needs before my two-week skiing holiday next month.

1000 Days in Space (link)

1000 Days in Space - Yesterday (29th/July/2003) marked the 1000th consecutive day that a human presence has been aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Today is the 1001st day, and tommorow will be the 1002nd and so on, so who the fark cares right?

Its a reasonable milestone I reckon. Plenty of criticism has been levelled at the project over the last couple of years, most of it concerning the cost of the excercise and the dubious returns.

Despite events like the Columbia balls-up, and the fact that the ISS really is an especially fragile bucket of bolts in a dangerous environment, we are destined to venture outwards from this hunk of rock at some point, we might as well get started sooner rather than later.
