Live Tour Extravaganza (link) Wow, what a treat. Have just got in from watching 6-hours of live coverage of the eighth stage of the Tour de France. It was the only time I can remember us EVER getting a live feed of the tour here in NZ.
Normally we get a relatively crap 25 minute round-up of each days stage, and even that we have to pay for. The only free coverage is a 10-second micro-segment on the evening news, which only gives them time to mention where Lance Armstrong is placed. Never mind the 180-odd other riders. Grrrrrrr!!!! But 6-hours of cycling glory. Man.... It was almost too much. The last time I got that much of a velo-hard-on was during the '94 tour when I saw it live in Portsmouth, I was living in the UK at the time. Plus the coverage on European telly is ALLWAYS-Live, hours of it each day. They know what its like to get proper sports coverage, not just the good-ole kiwi triumvirate of Rugby, Racing and Golf. The only negative thing about it was seeing spectators enjoying all the lovely summer weather in the French Alps, and then leaving my mates house at 3:30 in the morning to have to scrape ice off the car windows, shivvering for 10 minutes in our winter morning waiting for the engine to warm up and wear the frost off the wind-shield before driving home. 3:52:21 AM |
