Unicode Character conversion using Regular Expressions is being discussed in thread on perl-XML today. There are a couple of useful examples that replace numerical character codes in a source string and replace them with their ordinal values prefixed by '&#' .

MSWord RTF to XML conversion was talked about in a thread on the Perl-XML list last week. A couple of suggestions were made earlier re Java tools that attempt this heinous task, but as Chris Mackie suggest, the problem is almost impossible unless templates and styles have been used consitantly in Word, and I know from experience that they generally arent, so its basically a show-stopper.
