It sounds horribly cliched .. but there really is some substance to the claim that Italians are Styley. They know how to recognise style, they know how to manufacture style, and they know how to deliver it, whether its wearing something or driving/using it.

This will be no surprise to you if you know any Italians, or have visited Italy yourself. Style is an endemic element of nearly everything Italian. Not just personal attire and luxuries, cars (and motorbikes of course) etc, but every-day household elements also get plenty of style-attention. Even their language is styley for christs sake !!!

It always cracked me up seeing gatherings of local teenagers in prominent streets in Italian towns in the evenings. They'd all be standing around casually shooting-the-breeze, looking cool, dressed up to the nines, nowhere in particular to go, just hanging around lookiing styley.

I'll always remember the first Italians I got to know in the UK. I was working at BritishRail and we used a lot of Marconi telecommunications gear and the company would occasionally send a couple of technicians over from Italy to help sort problems out. These guys were allways dressed up to the max, not overdone or flashy, just casual but style-y. They always looked a little out of place amongst the rest of us Railway ruffians, but they didnt seem to care, in a nonchalant way more than an arrogant one.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, tThere was a segment on the 6-o'clock news just now about the suspicious absence of Italian prime-minister Silvio Berlusconi form any political activity lately, despite it being a hot period politically Silvio has been nowhere to be seen for over a month.

Well, it turns out he decided it was time for a face-lift so just took the month off and got it sorted. Heaven-forbid someone should see him scarred and poorly after surgery.

By the way, not suprisingly Italian men lead the rest of Europe in the male cosmetic surgery ranks.
