First Swim of the Year today was stinkin hot so we jumped in the car, picked up Sonia and Mawzy (the outing was her idea) and blasted down to Kawhia on the west coast. Its not often you really need air-con in New Zealand but today was definately one of those days, it was like friggin California or something. Kawhia was pretty quiet considering. There were loads of locals out swimming and jumping off the wharf, we poked our nose into the little Museum on the waterfront, had fish-and-chips for lunch, then drove out to Ocean beach for a swim. If you haven't been to the Ocean beach you wont know about the white-hot-sandy-strectch-of-death that you have to sprint over between the car-park and the beach itself. Fuck it gets hot, and today was no different. We'd timed things perfectly coz the tide had just started to turn which made the swiming safer (can be some wicked under-tows there) and the time was right for a dip in the hot spring water that seeps up in the middle of the beach. Loads of folks had already dug pools so I jumped in a spare one and soaked it up while the girls braved the ever so slightly cooler ocean. 8:08:41 PM |
