Text to XML script

Text to XML is something that we'll need to perform more regularly so have knocked out a script txt_to_XML.pl which takes a file name, reads it line by line and spits out each line in node tags specified in variables in the top of the script.

I'm using it for the Science template migration job to take a directory listing and convert it to XML so that data can be read and added to by other down-stream scripts. I reckon it less fragile than using comma/tab-seperated txt files of varying formats.

The Spam Letters (link)

The Spam Letters is a hillarious collection of responses that the Jonathon Land has written back to the senders of Spam. I've been collecting Spam sent to me over the last couple of years and many of the same emails are in his collection. You've gotta read some of this stuff, its excellent.

Proper use of DocType in RSS (link)

Proper use of DocType in RSS feeds came up in a thread on the Syndication list on Saturday but its a good general discussion of what DocTypes to use when you're generating special entities in XML feeds from dynamic sources or scritps. Just in case the Yahoo-Group archives dissapear I've saved a copy of the message here.

XSLT Articles - Robert DuCharme's column at XML.com provides regular practical examples of using XSLT to transform XML. Well worth a read.
