DeeKnow’s Grotto

Its been a day of mixed emotions for me today, which I quietly buried of course under the robust exterior of my manly kiwi air (just kidding).

At approximately 12:45pm this afternoon I bid farewell to my trusty old Kwaka. While I was sitting in the office at Hamilton MC center I heard the old girl fire up in the workshop as the mechanics gave her a last minute going over before we completed the trade for my new machine.

Was kinda weird hearing the thing roar into life and rev up and down without me being the one on the throttle. It was at that point that I realised this thing was really happeneing, I was really finally parting ways with the Green Menace after months, many months, of deliberation over whether I really needed any more perfomance than the ageing Ninja offered.

The answer to the performance-lust question was ultimately, unavoidably and categorically YES of course.

So it was I gave her one last look, threw a leg over my spanking (as)new FireBlade and roared off into the sunset leaving a trail of driveway dust to settle over the back of the saddle of the ZX7.

I'm really pleased Lord Plunket had the presence of mind to take a couple of snaps of me on the bike last time I left his place. He grabbed a cool still and an excellent little movie (3MB) of me doing a departure from his driveway. Quite the fitting farewell for what has been a bloody great bike.
