Fun in the Traffic (link)
It seems that Hamilton has almost hit the big-time traffic congestion wise Today I took Kym's car to work and on the way home tonight I found myself stuck in queues at every bloody intersection between work and home with nothing to do but sit and wait. Fuming and cursing at the idiots up ahead. I've been on two-wheels for about 2-years now (since my car was thrown off the license plate register) so I guess I haven't noticed the increase in congestion lately, its so damn easy to slip through traffic queues on a bike. There is one fun aspect to congestion though. Playing the old beat-the-queue game by taking sneaky side-roads. Turning left, right, looping, short-cutting and always on the move trying to get the edge on those taking the direct route home. Truth is, you end up travelling three times as far and still end up taking the same time to get home as everyone else. It is fun though. Like being in a big city where everyone has their secret route that they swear shaves a few precious minutes off the journey, and that they'll only share with you. Congestion during our extended 15min long peak traffic period at 5:15 has even been raised by our City Council who are considering a park-and-ride scheme, but I dont think its quite that bad, and it seems neither do many folks who replied to the stuff.co.nz online survey on the matter. 5:58:15 PM |
