The Britten at IOM TT (link)
The Isle of Man has been running this week and culminated today with the final race, the senior TT. Tonight I jumped onto the official IOM-TT website and followed the live timing results being posted as riders barreled their way around 6-laps of the the 37mile course. This in itself was kinda exciting, being live and all, but there was more to come. I was listening to the Manx-radio live broadcast over the net last night but hadnt been able to get on tonight coz of the popularity of the event. I finally got on about 20mins ago in time to catch the round-up for the day and the introduction of the classic parade that is beginning right now with 120 or so celebrity riders doing a single lap of honour. Suddenly the tone of the commentators got a little higher pitched and excitable as they mentioned that one of the John Britten bikes was being wheeled out and was about to be started up to join the lap of honour. One of the commentators charged out to the start line with his mic right at the time the Britten fired into life.... GRRRr... GRRRrrrr... GRRRrrr... GRRRrrr... Holy shit it sounded great, fuckn brilliant. The radio guys were literally creaming themselves with excitement as they commented on how friggin mean the thing sounded. Kiwi racing legend Hugh Anderson is piloting the machine, no idea which one it is but I'm pickin it'll be the Black/Yellow one they built for the Italian guy that was actually raced in Europe for awhile. I cant believe what amazing timing it was to tune in just as that was happening, and even more freeky is the coincidence that when I called round to Lord Plunket's on the way home tonight we actually watched some DVD action of the Britten bike doing its thing at Daytona. What a day!! :-) 1:02:31 AM |
