Yosemite National Park
In July 2002 I was visiting California on business trip and
popped up to San Francisco to take a three day guided mini-van tour to Yosemite
national park. The following are from our first full day in the park.

Here's our group on the way up Mt
something-or-other. We were are kinda mini United-Nations as we had a
Brazilian, Belgians, English, Germans, Japanese, South Africans, Yugoslavian, a Yank and of
course a particularly good looking kiwi lad. |
On the way up we had to make way
for a couple of pack horses. Our guide reckons they were replenishing
supplies in park huts, but I reckon the old dude on the front horse was
just being lazy. |

First stop for the day was a wee
lake about half way up the mountain. Time for a toilet break and a few
photos. At this stage we had plenty of confidence in our fitness. We
hadn't really started climbing yet though. |
Here's a view looking back down
from the lake mentioned above. This is some amazing contry, with view like
this (sans water) pretty much wherever you look.. |

Now we were getting loads higher
finally. Here's a view looking back down the route we'd come up. You can
just make out the track winding down the slope. |
Just below the summit of the
climb we came accross a sheltered rocky area that still had snow in it
from the Winter. This was pretty freaky considering it was mid-summer. Of
course we were at 11,000 feet at this point. |
