Time-out at Hahei
Two weeks off at any time of the year is always great but has seemed rather timely just now given we didn't really have a break over xmas. The week we spent in Nelson was awesome. We got up to loads but all this holidaying is bloody tiring work, especially if you're on the move all the time having to be at certain places at certain times etc. Which is why this last week lying around at Hahei has been refreshingly .... well... refreshing. The beach was pleasantly deserted. No Germans fighting for towel space. We had the bach to ourselves and no neighbours in the street (until all the Dorklanders arrived yesterday). There was no-one down at the shop, no queues at the chippie, and best of all no screaming kids charging round making a bloody fuss over everything. Between lounging around in the bach and hiding from the Sun under the umbrella at the beach I read the fact-packed but suprisingly readable "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson, then rounded off my holiday reading workout with "Dr Zhivago" by Boris Pasternak, a stereotypically tragic, bleak yet engaging Russian novel if ever there was one. Alas, our recent and seemlingly "endless run of adventures" as Mr Woody described them tonight have finally drawn to a close now that its Sunday night and we're expected back at work tommorow. Roll on Winter (and the snow) !!! 10:08:03 PM |
