Ski Trip 2002 - Turoa
In the 2nd week of August this year, Kym and I headed down to our local volcano for a weeks skiing.
The snow was amazing by local standards, 240cm base and beautiful packed powder. Visibility came and
went most days, but we did get two days of clear-blue-skies which made up for it.

This year we stayed at a motel in Ohakune (15km downhill from the skifield) called The Hobbit. The 1st night there it snowed apparently, not that
we noticed as we're not exaclty known for our early starts. But here's the dusting on the car at about 10:00am. |
And here we are, smiles from ear-to-ear, in the obligitory take a photo-of-yourselves shot. Jeeze we make a great couple. |

Here's a shot of Kym on the road leading up to the Turoa ski-area. In New Zealand there really isnt
any accomodation in the ski are apart from mountain, ski and tramping club huts. This road is about 15km long leading from
the nearest town to Mt Rhuapehu on the south side. |
I dont ski regularly at Turoa, but this was definately the most snow I've seen on the
mountain in awhile. This is the car-park just below the field where we waited for the shuttle bus. |
