Richards raced the British Superstock series in 2000 and 2001 before moving to British Superbikes in 2002 when riding a ZX7R for Hawk Kawasaki he finished 7th overall. In 2003 he was top performing rider in the Hawk team finishing the season 4th overall after 3rds at Silvertstone and Thruxton and an amazing total of 14 finishes in the top-five during the year.
For 2004 Richards is riding one of the all new ZX10 Kawasakis in the British Superbikes championship in the Hawk Kawasaki team with Scott Smart. He had a 6th at Oulton Park early in the season and a couple of 7ths and other lower placings which sees him in 8th place currently in series.
Triple TT winner John Mc Guinness filled in at Brands Hatch for the injured Richards who broke his arm at Thruxton. Mc Guinness scored a 3rd placing in race one. Richards was back at Oulton park the second time round finishing 6th in one of the races.
